Many female actors have faced pay disparity in Bollywood. While some have fought for their rights, some are still continuing to work with less salary. Speaking about the same in the recent exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, Alia Bhatt mentioned that she believes in equality and feels that everybody should be treated with equal care and comfort.
When asked about the pay disparity that female actors face in the entertainment industry, the Darlings actor said, “No see, treatment, I am somebody who believes in equality. So, I believe that everybody should be treated with equal care, comfort, and everything. And, the price that you get paid is the price that, I mean I don’t understand numbers, and I’m not going to get in that anyways. But there’s no shortchanging, or there’s no naa insaafi (injustice) that will happen. I mean, obviously not. That goes without saying. It’s 2022 for heaven’s sake. But in general, I don’t want to tell stories like, I’m not like ‘Main women-centric stories bolungi’. I just want to tell stories. The strength of characters, layers of characters, even in a film like Darlings, it’s very layered. These characters are not straightforward.”

“So, I’m not trying to sell this narrative. I am a strong woman. I have strong ideologies and I like certain ideologies. But, it’s not like I believe every person is the same. And, even I have had my own faults or whatever. So, I want to tell real stories and stories that connect with people. That’s it. It shouldn’t be women-centric, male-centric, animal-centric, whatever. You just tell a story and tell it well. That’s all that matters,” the Kalank actor added.
