Saina, a biographical movie on the life of acclaimed badminton player Saina Nehwal released on March 26, 2021. The movie sees Parineeti Chopra turning into Saina Nehwal and acing the game. However, initially, Saina was planned with Shraddha Kapoor in the lead. But later, the movie changed hands and fell in Pari’s lap, with Parineeti Chopra finally playing the lead in Saina.
In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Bubble, writer-director Amol Gupte finally revealed the real reason behind Shraddha Kapoor’s exit from Saina and how Pareenti Chopra walked into her shoes. Ask him about the speculations of Shraddha Kapoor being replaced by Parineeti Chopra in Saina, Amole Gupte clarifies, “Aare bhai, kuch toh log kahenge, logo ka kaam hai kehna. Choddho bekaar ki baatein, cause usme acha moment nikal jaata hai. Frankly, nothing like that happened. In fact, Shraddha (Kapoor) was perfectly fit, she had trained to do the role. We started shooting together, because she was fit to do the role, and had done her training. And then, she contracted dengue, and it is very exhausting. Almost 1 and half months passed for her recovery.”
“After that, how can she stand on a set for 12 hours playing badminton? Yeh koi rone done wala scene toh hai nahi, koi drama nahi, ke baat karle toh ho gaya, yahaan toh khelna hai. So, she couldn’t because dengue really takes life off. It is completely exhausting. So, instead of doing Saina at that time, she went to Chhichhore which was the slot that was coming up, I said please go, don’t worry,” he added.
Here’s what Amole Gupte has to say about Shraddha Kapoor being replaced by Parineeti Chopra in Saina:

Amole Gupte continued, “However, in February, when I got a chance to restart Saina with her, I had another crisis with the producer. The generous, Mr Bushan Kumar, is the spine behind my film. He said that I’m taking Shraddha to Street Dancer 3D with Varun Dhawan, as it is more at stake, and already the wheels were on. So, he took Shraddha for shooting Street Dancer and gave me Parineeti Chopra. So, it was a win-win for everybody.”
“Frankly, I don’t even audition, coz I know they can do it. And a fine actor like Parineeti can definitely do it. So, it is not about Shraddha Vs Parineeti or Parineeti Vs Shraddha at all,” he concluded.
