Arjun Kapoor recently shared the trailer for his upcoming release Sardar Ka Grandson. The film also starring Neena Gupta in the lead role as Sardar explores the grandparent and grandson bond. The film release in May on Netflix and in an exclusive chat, Arjun Kapoor revealed that the film is all hearts and is a family entertainer. He also mentioned that he did this film for his grandparents since he spent a lot of his childhood with them. He also revealed how the film was earlier meant to be a theatre release but he is happy to see it finally releasing.
Arjun Kapoor will be making his web debut with Sardar Ka Grandson. When asked about it, Arjun asserted, “In all fairness, Sardar and Grandsons were never intended to be a film that debuts but then life and circumstances changed when the pandemic happened. But I am very glad that it is getting the right platform and I am excited that it will connect with the right audience. I think like you said yes, OTT is a balancing factor where an actor can sometimes choose to do a film on OTT without worrying about the financial consequences of it. But I think the beauty of these amazing platforms is to co-exist and have the best of both worlds. That is far more empowering.”
About Sardar Ka Grandson, Arjun Kapoor added, “I am glad that Sardar Ka Grandson has allowed me to explore a new avenue but that doesn’t mean that tomorrow when Bhoot Police releases in theatres, it will still come on a platform. As an actor, I think today we have to privilege to choose and I look forward to doing a film or a limited series for the platform because I know this audience would like that. At the same time, I think Sardar Ka Grandson is a universal film and a family film. While platforms usually have a personal viewing space, in that sense this might be one of the firsts to be a family film. I resonate with the story a lot, it is a sweet relationship ones share with their grandparents.”

He asserted, “As a child, I stayed with my grandparents a lot, and hence the story is special to me. Just like Ki and Ka was for my mum, this one is for my grandparents.”
How does he see the expansion of OTT reach in the country today? “I see this as an advantage because you can reach more people and the audience is getting educated and they are watching material that creates patience in them because they are seeing episodic. Some subjects which perhaps did not get the space in films so much have a space on platforms and getting a lot of love. It takes the financial pressure from an actor. When you choose to do a film for theatre, you have to keep in mind that you are doing it to reach a far bigger audience. I feel it positively changes the dynamics, and I hope it helps many more stories to be told,” Arjun Kapoor candidly shared.
