EXCLUSIVE: Gauahar Khan gets emotional as she remembers her father: Losing him was the toughest part of my life

Losing your parent at any age is difficult. No matter how young or old you are, one can never be prepared to deal with the loss of a parent. Last year, Gauahar Khan had to face that difficult time as her father passed away on March 5, 2021. Recently, as the actress and husband Zaid Darbar got into an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Bubble, Gauahar broke down remembering the first special man in her life.

It was Gauahar’s dad Zafar who actually pushed her to get into modelling and pageantry. She eventually went on to win the title of Miss India International 2002 and represented the country at the Miss International pageant. Gauahar Khan made a successful career in showbiz post that and it was all because of the support of her father.

Along with him, the actress also found a supportive husband in Zaid, who always backs her in whatever step she takes. When asked how the presence of such supportive men in her life motivates her to work harder, Gauahar shared, “My dad was also Z, he was Zafar and Zaid is also Z, so I am still Gauahar Z Khan. First it was my dad’s initial, now I take it as my dad’s and my husband’s initial. I am very lucky that there are two men in my life who have been the most impactful, of course my brother is my jaan, my life, my everything. Zaid has kind of filled that space that usually girls get when they have bad experiences or relationships or generally when you have experiences that didn’t go through the way you wanted them to. You may get a little negative about ever finding that. But with Zaid’s presence, I have suddenly started believing in everything like it’s possible for everyone. What you seek you will get and everything I wanted, is Zaid. I just love the fact that even though I don’t have my dad now, I have Zaid and through my dad’s journey, he was with me, he was my biggest support and I am grateful for that.”

Talking about her dad just makes Gauahar emotional and she just couldn’t hold back her tears. She said, “Not having my dad everyday is a process. You would think that you are over it right?” 

Seeing her get emotional, Zaid shared his experience saying, “The other day I picked her up and she was crying in the car. I asked what happened, and she said I am missing papa again.”

Gauahar went on to say, “You empathise with people when they lose a parent or a loved one, but you never really know the volume and weight of that until it hits you. I think losing my dad was the toughest part of my life but Zaid is just with me and that’s the best part.”

When mentioned that her dad was always proud of her and would be still, she said, “I hope so.” To that, Zaid added, “Once he told me, ‘Beta, Gauahar mera beta hai. Mujhe jis tareeke se Gauahar ne rakha hai hamesha mere saath mein, ek dum bete ki tarah rakha hai.’ He was always praising Gauahar. Trust me, he was a great man, an amazing man and what a personality he had.”

Gauahar has had an amazing year professionally last year with Tandav and 14 Phere and she continued that this year with Bestseller and Salt City. She is indeed making her dad prouder everyday.
