Ishaan Khatter was raised by his mother Neliima Azeem as a single parent after her separation with ex-husband Rajesh Khattar, and the young actor insists that dealing with the separation and those tough times that came post it, became easier because of brother Shahid Kapoor. He asserted, “Well, I had an elder brother. So, I had someone and then he started doing very well for himself by the time I was 9 or 10 years old. So, he was also someone who took care of me and us. So, I was fortunate to have that.”

The Phone Bhoot actor shared that there was a time when he was initially seen just as ‘Shahid Kapoor’s younger brother’, and he even got some offers because of that, but he decided not to take them up because he wanted to be first ready to become an actor with right knowledge and training. He also went on to point out the similarities between both of their careers, mentioning the concerns he had while starting his professional journey at a young age. He said, “I wasn’t sure what kind of work I would be offered or what kind of work would be out there even for a young actor. I think I also started really young and I think the only other actor that I know who started that young was my own brother 15 years ago. So, I was 21 when I started and there aren’t a lot of roles that are written in mainstream films about people that young unfortunately. I guess people take time to see and sometimes they’ll watch an actor and develop something thinking about them so that’s okay, I’m okay to wait, I don’t get impatient.”
