EXCLUSIVE: Juhi Chawla on the sudden death of Sharmaji Namkeen co-star Rishi Kapoor: ‘I was in shock, I couldn’t believe’

The movie Sharmaji Namkeen will feature late actor Rishi Kapoor playing the role of Sharmaji. Sharmaji Namkeen, is all set to release soon and is the last film of late veteran actor Rishi Kapoor. The movie also features Paresh Rawal, as Sharmaji, who stepped in after the sudden and untimely death of Chintoo Ji. Sharmaji Namkeen also stars Juhi Chawla in a key role. In an exclusive interview with us, Juhi Chawla spoke about Rishi Kapoor and his sudden death. Juhi Chawla shared how she was shocked hearing the news about the death of Rishi Kapoor.

Speaking about Rishi Kapoor with Bollywood Bubble, Juhi Chawla said, “As an actor, I envied Chintoo Ji. Because, I was like, ‘This is just made for him. This is not fair. This is a brilliant role. A brilliant little film’.”

The Sharmaji Namkeen actress added, “Then, of course, series of things in between where we began to film. And, then Chinto Ji wasn’t well. And then unfortunately we lost him.”

Talking about how she reacted to the news about Rishi Kapoor’s demise, Juhi said, “To me I was in shock. Those days I was in shock. I couldn’t believe this could happen. Because, just few months before, two months before, I was on the sets with him. In between too, I had met him.”

On the decision of producer Ritesh Sidhwani to complete the movie, Juhi Chawla said, “What I find very touching was that after it did happen, he (Rishi Kapoor) passed away, Ritesh (Sidhwani) called me up. And he said, ‘You know what Juhi, we’re going to finish this film’.”

The actress added, “And I was like, Ritesh that’s so nice of you. How many people go that far. The easiest thing would have been to say okay, let it go, it was not meant to be. But to say, ‘No, we are going to make the effort’. At that moment he (Ritesh Sidhwani) had no idea how? He said, ‘I don’t know how, but we will work our way out. It is Chintoo Ji’s last work and we must have it out.”
