EXCLUSIVE: Masaba Gupta on having a hard time telling Neena Gupta about her divorce: It was easier to put it on Instagram than tell my mother

Neena Gupta and Masaba Gupta form for the perfect mother-daughter duo that reflects what happens when this relationship turns more into friendship. There sweet and spicy equation is quite amazing in real life and even on screen, they showed it in the Netflix show Masaba Masaba. When they recently returned with Masaba Masaba 2, there were more layers seen of their equations and the audience has been loving it.

Recently, Neena Gupta and Masaba Gupta indulged in an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Bubble for our new segment Dear Buddy where they shed light on their relationship and the role they have played in each other’s lives. Like any Indian mother, there was a time when Neena ji used to repeatedly ask her daughter when will she get married, and Masaba eventually tied the knot with producer Madhu Mantena in 2015. However, the couple got separated in 2018 and their divorce was finalised the following year.

When asked if Neena ji asks her to get married anymore, Masaba replied, “No. She is just like, jo karna hai karo,” to which the legendary actress hilariously butted in saying, “Ye bhi nahi bolti. Main bolti hi nahi kuch.” The fashion wizard turned actress went on to share, “When I come to her for advice sometimes, then she says. She is not giving me gyaan on her own. If I ask her for advice, she tells me what she thinks is right.”

Talking about her divorce, Masaba and Neena ji admitted that it was indeed a tough time for both of them. However, Masaba revealed that it was more tough for her to tell her mother about it. She insisted, “I had a hard time telling her, because I was like ‘marr gaye’. It was easier to put it on Instagram than tell my mother.”

To even Masaba’s surprise, Neena ji shared that even her husband Vivek Mehra was affected by it. Sharing how their feelings towards Madhu Mantena are now, Neena ji said, “Even my husband had a tough time. Vivek used to like him very much. I still like him, Vivek still likes him, nafrat thodi ho jayegi.”

Neena ji have always treaded the path that many few have taken and she has indeed created a legacy to follow, be it as an actress, a mother or as a woman, and she continues to add just more milestones to it.
