EXCLUSIVE: Neena Gupta takes a jab at typecasting in Bollywood: Kuch actors ne toh vardi khareed ke hi rakh li hai

Neena Gupta is one of the most talented actors in Bollywood and there’s no denying that. Over the years, Neena has been a part of many movies including Badhaai Ho, Goodbye, and Uunchai among others. With her stellar performances, the veteran actor has proved that she’s one of a kind. Neena, who is currently promoting her upcoming film Vadh, sat down for an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble. During the conversation, the veteran actress took a jab at ‘typecasting’ in Bollywood.

Sharing her thoughts on being ‘typecast’, Neena Gupta said, “Kuch aise actors hai jinke pass unhone ne toh vardi khareed ke li rakh li hai (There are some actors who have bought that uniform and kept it)”

She later went on to add, “Typecast naa hona usse bohot problem hai kyunki jab aap typecast hai toh kam se kam woh role toh aapko milega. Jab aap typecast nahi hai toh woh role bhi aapko nahi milta kyunki logon ko dhyan hi nahi aata apko kya dena hai. I had to suffer this (Not being typecast is also a big problem because when you are typecast at least you’ll get those roles. But when you are not, you will not even get roles because then people don’t remember what roles to give you)”

Recalling an incident, Neena Gupta shared, “Ek mera bohot acha dost film bana raha tha and mereko pata chala London mein gaye film banane, jiske saath maine woh ki thi Ladies Special, uska writer. Toh mujhe pata chala uski movie mein ek role hai joh mere umar ka hai, sab kuch hua hai, and he took somebody else. I called him ‘Aare tune mujhe nahi liya’. He was already shooting. He said ‘Oh aare yaar, mujhe yaad nahi aya’. So ye bhi hota hai ki dhyan hi nahi aata (There’s one good friend of mine. One day, he was making a film and I came to know about it. He was in London and with him I worked on Ladies Special. I got to know that in his film there’s a role that is similar to my age, and he took somebody else. I called him ‘You didn’t take me’. He was already shooting. He said ‘Oh, I didn’t remember’. So, even this happens that they don’t remember)”

The actress went on to add, “So maine seekha hai itne saalon mein ki you have to be besharam. Modesty joh hume sikhata hai is not a good policy. Apna danka khud bajana padta hai. I am good. Take me (I’ve learned all these years that you have to be Shameless. Modesty is not a good policy. You have to toot your own horn. I am good. Take me)” Neena Gupta is known to speak her mind.

The actress is currently busy with the promotions of ‘Vadh’ with Sanjay Mishra. Vadh is slated to release on 9 December, 2022.
