Sardar Ka Grandson released on Netflix recently. The movie is getting mixed reviews. It stars Arjun Kapoor, Rakul Preet Singh, and Neena Gupta in pivotal roles. The story is about a man’s (Arjun Kapoor) mission to reunite his ailing grandmother (Neena Gupta) with her ancestral home in Lahore. Will her grandson be able to fulfill her wish? That forms the crux of the story.

In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Arjun and Rakul Preet shared how they felt connected with the script. Arjun said that he did the film for his grandparents. Rakul added that she was also very close to her grandparents.

She said, “My grandparents from both sides (maternal and paternal) came from Pakistan during the time of partition. I have grown up listening to stories specially my dadu had a lot of stories to share because he was just 12-13-year-old when the partition happened. It was his wish always to go back and visit his house and unfortunately, we couldn’t take him because of dad being in the army, it wasn’t easy. But we tried. There were many attempts and by the time dad took retirement, dadu was too old to travel.”

Rakul further said, “When I heard the script of Sardar Ka Grandson, the first thing is it touched me so much because it was like my story. Though we lost him a year and a half back, I just wished that I could fulfill that wish for him. He always had that glint in his eyes whenever he spoke about his school, his friends, his house, how it looked and which is why I connected so much with the film and I said that I have to part of something which will be emotionally able to touch upon so many lives.”

“I was also the pampered grandkid. I was the first daughter in the house after two-three generations of sons,” she added.

Rakul lost her paternal grandmom three-four years back. She said, “It was unfortunate. We were really happy and suddenly she fell sick and was admitted. She had a brain hemorrhage and never woke up. She fought but couldn’t make it. But whatever we did, thankfully there are all beautiful memories that we have, and hopefully, they will be looking from above and blessing us with this film and feeling happy that we are talking about them and yes, life still goes on.”
