EXCLUSIVE: Ranbir Kapoor reveals why he agreed to do Shamshera: It was a gift of God, came at the right time

Ranbir Kapoor is one of the most talented and successful actors in Bollywood. Ranbir is currently busy promoting his film Shamshera with co-star Vaani Kapoor. The actor will be seen in a never-seen-before avatar. The Shamshera trailer gave a glimpse of Ranbir fighting against Sanjay Dutt and left fans beyond excited. Now, in an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, Ranbir revealed what made him say ‘yes’ to Shamshera.

Ranbir said, “I was not offered a lot of films of this nature and of playing a larger than life hero. And nor was it a conscious decision that at that time in my life I was searching for Shamshera. It just was a gift of God, it came at the right time in my life, in my career. It’s one of the few films that as soon as I heard the narration I said yes. I wanted to work with Karan Malhotra. I wanted to do a film of this nature with a director who understands the genre… who is very good with his tone. Making films is a director’s medium and you have to really partner with the right director to do a certain film.”

For the uninitiated, Ranbir will be playing double role for the first time in his career. Ranbir will be seen as Shamshera and Balli in the film. Going by the trailer, Ranbir has nailed it and how!

Karan Malhotra was asked about Ranbir playing both father and son’s role in Shamshera and he said, “We didn’t have an actor’s name in mind. I definitely knew that we needed a more mature looking performer for the part. But having said that, when we offered Balli’s character to Ranbir, he jumped onto Shamshera’s well. He said, ‘yaar mereko ye karna hai try (I want to try doing this)’ And that is when we started our process of you know putting him into Shamshera and Balli’s characters and see that he can be as powerful for both the parts and as convincing. And eventually, that did happen. He is brilliant in the film, in both the parts.”

Directed by Karan Malhotra, Shamshera also stars Sanjay Dutt, Ronit Roy and Saurabh Shukla. Shamshera is slated to release on 22^nd July.
