EXCLUSIVE: Sidharth Malhotra on being an outsider: “You have to take the tougher route, learn the hard way when you don’t have a film background”

Actor Sidharth Malhotra made his big Bollywood debut with Student Of Year which was bankrolled by Karan Johar’s Dharma Production. The actor then went on to deliver some hits as well as not-so-impressive films in his career spanning 9 years. Now, the actor is currently basking in praises for his powerful and impactful role of late martyr Captain Vikram Batra in Shershaah. Sidharth has not just played the character but he lived the real-life character on the big screen. However, in an interview with BollywoodBubble, when asked Malhotra about if he was being treated differently in the industry since he is an outsider, he revealed that he has to learn the hard way but also feels that he is now coming to the insider club but on his own merits and not anybody else’s.  

He exclusively told us, “Over the years, there have been many instances where I would take people at face value but that would not be the case. I feel it kind of you have to learn the hard way when you are not from the film background, you have to go around the tougher route to realise ‘Oh, that’s what the person meant, this is what I’m supposed to do, oh, he did not mean that at all, he never did that’ you cannot take everyone at face value. It is much tougher in that sense mentally I would say in my experience because I wonder why would that person not say and mean what he wants too.”

“And of course, you have seen people change with the tide whether it sense of interest or whether its work or whether its personal interests and that all you observe in the hard way, that’s also the reason I kind of detach myself from the industry at times to keep the sense of normalcy and not to attach to highs and lows. But yeah, (there has been) a lot of learnings. Now, it has been 9 years and I think I’m inching towards the insider purely on my merit and not anybody else’s,” he concluded.
