Actor Sidharth Malhotra started his filmy career with filmmaker Karan Johar as he made his Bollywood debut with Student Of the Year. He played one of the leads along with Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt. But before bagging a role in SOTY, he worked as an assistant director to Karan Johar and went through auditions for the role. Much his surprise, he bagged a role in the movie and it made him extremely emotional.
Recalling the surreal days, the Shershaah actor tells us in an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble that his mind was blown when he came to know that Karan will be directing the film. When asked if he knew about the movie when he was an AD. To which, Sidharth said, “I had no clue, none of us had any clue about what we were auditioning for. We knew there was a film based on college students and that’s what we were called upon to have auditions. I was already an assistant director but they knew I already wanted to be an actor so they asked me to do an audition but we had not one but five days of auditions of different scenes and lip-syncing songs and different emotions. They were also auditioning many boys and girls at the same time because they need to get four people on the set first and then it became three people.”
“Right at the end, when they said that they might be a possibility of you doing this film, I was very excited because I was getting a film under a legit banner. It is a massive banner. Karan (Johar) going individually to all of us and having that chat. (Then he took a pause and said) I’m directing it and that’s obviously like ‘what! your mind’s exploding and you’re like is this really real, like you’re really directing it,” the Baar Baar Dekho actor continues.

Talking about the tough days when he had no job, Sidharth mentions that he manifested a film like this and he took days to absorb the fact. He further says, “It was weird, it was very emotional because it just reminded me of all the tough times that I’ve had. Then all the time when I was struggling in the past, being surviving in a city like Mumbai without a job. I kept it willing for a moment like this, I kept manifesting a film like this or an opportunity like this. When it really happened, it was spoken in the room that he’s directing it and I’m going to be a part of that, it was emotional. It was the excitement, it was a mixed kind of experience I didn’t know how to react and it was something that I didn’t believe first, in the first few minutes and it took me days and days to absorb it and then obviously you get consumed by focus and kind of that drive key like ‘I have to be in the best shape, we have to do this, we have to do that’. I had also many nervous moments at that time because it was so far-fetched and so daunting for me to get this perfect dream launch.”
Sidharth Malhotra completes 10 years in the industry today and much to our delight, he is doing pretty well for himself after the smashing success of Shershaah. He will be next seen in Thank God with Ajay Devgn which looks quite promising. The movie will release on October 25.
