Actor Sidharth Malhotra has come a long way after making his Bollywood debut with Student Of The Year. After working as an assistant director to become a star and Shershaah of a million people’s hearts, Sidharth successfully completes a decade in the industry, despite being an outsider. He is one of the actors who has set an example that people from a non-filmy background can also make it big in the industry.

Speaking about his journey in an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, the Shershaah actor reveals that it becomes a little more difficult to prove yourself. Sidharth tells us, “I think when you come from outside the business, there is definitely more pressure on your shoulders to perform because there is every other Tom Dick and Harry has an opinion saying ‘why him? What’s so special about him’. I think we’re in our country the Haves and the haves-not have a massive clash all the time. When I did get that, I suddenly became from this outsider guy to ‘look what he has now’. Questions like ‘why does he have it’ came up and it’s sad but I think it eventually boils down to the audience and the actor’s relationship. I think it’s more important that people from the outside comes into the business to show some light and some stroke of likability, some stroke of performance that the audience will gauge it and they’ll like your work, they’ll want to watch you again.

It is far more difficult for people coming from outside the business to survive if they’re not doing something in that frame which is worthwhile so it does put that pressure. I think I’ve had a very up-and-down career and so I’ve been grateful for the ups and I’ve at times struggled with the downs but I think eventually the audience is responsible for me being here at present because I feel at times, I have no control and that’s all I can do on my day is to face that camera and do whatever my best version of that scene is and which is what I’ve done for the last 10 years and I’ve been very blessed to get the kind of love and which I see around.  From Shershaah, a film which I have been a very integral part of from the beginning, it gives you even more confidence that some creative decisions that you’re taking on a big project like this are going right which means there is a cinema brain in my head,” the Student of the Year actor says.
