Taapsee Pannu and Anurag Kashyap are a fiery duo on and off the screen. As big of a risk-taker they both are on the 70 mm, even in real life too, they don’t shy away from speaking their mind. And when the two come together, some fireworks are expected and something similar happened when the actor-director duo indulged in an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Bubble, ahead of the release of their upcoming project Dobaaraa.

When it is mentioned that the film industry has come under scrutiny a lot in the last few years, Taapsee retorted saying, “It always has been. Koi choti si bhi cheez hoti hai, ghum firke, jaise mummy nahi bolti hain, bacha padhai nahi kar raha, ye phone ki wajah se hai, bachcha so nahi raha, phone ki wajah se hai, bachche ko kuch prblem hai, ye phone ki wajah se hai. Matlab koi relation nahi hoga par bachcha phone mein ghusa rehta hai, to wo problem hai. So, wo ho gaya hai, ki hamare country mein koi bhi problem hogi, wo film industry ki wajah se hai. (Even for the smallest thing, it has become like a mother blames using phone for any of a child’s problem, similarly, any problem happens in our country, it all gets blamed on the film industry).”Â

Taking it in zest, Anurag added with a quippy remark, “Baadh bhi aati hai, baarish bhi aati hai, sab film industry ki wajah se hai. (Even floods and rains are because of film industry).” When pointed out that he has seen opposition from outside and within the industry for a long time, the filmmaker chuckled, “ Main jab se industry mein aaya hun, tab se dekh raha hun. Main unke level tak nahi uth paya, to sab mere level pe aa gaye. (I have been seeing it ever since I entered the industry. I couldn’t rise to their level, so they stooped down to mine).”

Putting the current phase into perspective, Taapsee shared, “Ek Mary Kom ki line hai, ‘kisi ko itna bhi mat darao ki darr hi khatam ho jaye’. So, it has now come to that. We have seen the worst, we have seen us getting targeted in the worst possible way. Isse bura kuch nahi ho sakta hai so ab na, wo lagta bhi nahi hai. Like for example, boycott, boycott. Ab tum har ek ko boycott karoge, har film ko boycott karoge to wo mazaak ban jayega jo wo mazaak ban gaya hai. (There can’t be anything worst so it doesn’t even feel that way. Like if you boycott every film, it will become a joke, and it has become one).”

However, the actress insisted that she is looking forward to getting boycotted for Dobaara on Twitter. “Hona chahiye otherwise we will feel very bad. I will feel very left out. Please boycott us.” Even Anurag agrees with the sentiment as he added, “Agar boycott nahi hua, to logon ne aapko ignore kar diya, aapki value nahi hai, aap matter nahi karte. (If you are not boycotted, then people have ignored you, you don’t matter).”

As sharp as their sense of humour is, Taapsee Pannu and Anurag Kashyap sure do form a formidable duo and it is seemingly on display in Dobaaraa too. They have surely brought something special and unique this time as well.
