Actress Taapsee Pannu has come a long way in the industry. Though she made her Bollywood debut in David Dhawan’s directorial Chashme Baddoor in 2013, she was quite popular down the South. There was a time when Taapsee used to sit on the sixth row at events and now she has reached a point in her career where she is lauded for her performances and also she has bagged many prestigious awards now; this year she won was the Filmfare Award for Best Actress for her role in Thappad.

In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Bubble, when we asked Taapsee how she sees things change when it comes to people viewing her performances and art, she said, “It was my first year in Hindi cinema. I had done one or maximum two films. When I used to go to events, what I used to find weird was I was almost a dozen films old which is much more than others who were there but films for them are only Hindi films. It doesn’t matter what you have done. It’s not any way less of a film but you are judged by your Hindi films. So, because of that where I was placed. In the South where I came from, there was a level I had achieved in those years, it made me feel like suddenly it held no value. So, all that hard work went down the drain and I had to start from scratch to have a position here. So I took it as a pinch of salt and then I disappeared from all the events for a couple of years and I started coming back only when it was relevant to have me there.”

The Haseen Dillruba actress added, “Talking about awards, I really used to enjoy and look forward to it till a particular year and after 2016, it kind of changed for me drastically because when I did Pink which till 2020 when we talk about the best performances of the decade, there are many places where I saw my name specially for Pink. When Pink released in 2016, then at that time I was not even nominated. So, it did break my heart for someone who always thought that when I have genuinely performed well, I will be acknowledged if not awarded. I then thought that maybe the rules were different and I misjudged it, so let’s start from scratch and reach there. Today, when I get awarded, it’s not just because I performed well upto the expectations, also because now it’s relevant enough to give me an award. They are slightly different things – to be relevant enough to get an award and to be actually good to get that award. So, you have to be both to get an award. You can’t just be one. So, I think that has changed over the years.”
