Vaani Kapoor made her Bollywood debut with Yash Raj’s Shuddh Desi Romance. She starred in Yash Raj’s other movies like Befikre and War. Vaani is choosy when it comes to picking projects. She chose projects they excited her as an actor to be part of. Currently, she is in news for her movie Bell Bottom, where she shares screen space with three other top actors – Akshay Kumar, Lara Dutta and Huma Qureshi. The movie released today (August 19). She plays Akshay Kumar’s on-screen wife. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, Vaani talks about her struggle as an outsider, her idea of stardom and failure, her character in Bell Bottom and more.
Women have always played an important role in the life of unsung heroes and they often go unnoticed or not talked much. But they are the one who brings normalcy to the life of spies or any heroes of the country. Akshay plays a spy agent and Vaani is his wife, but she is more than just his partner. Her character is important and Vaani says that it impacts Akshay’s character in Bell Bottom.
“They are not at the forefront who are leading it, but they do become a backbone of a certain character. They become the unsaid strength in a very subtle way. Of course, the script that is written and how it portrays in a certain film differs your perception as an audience for them changes as to how well the part has been written and projected,” said the War actress.
She added, “When the film came to me, I knew it’s Akshay Kumar’s film and it’s on a big scale. Even though she is his sweet loving partner, there is this individuality of hers that one can witness. She is a working woman from that era. She makes her own money, she is someone who is strong, level-headed and very centered. It’s a different layer to the part which also impacts Akshay Sir’s character in the movie. I feel every part has its own part-big or small but they eventually come together in a film to make it stronger and better. So, no part is small or inconsequential. There is a certain reason why they have been penned.”

Vaani tries to pick the best from what she is offered. “I may be for 20 minutes in a film, but I hope and feel even in that 20 minutes, I can leave some amount of substantial impact or hopefully people can register my acting or performance in that particular time limit that I have,” added Vaani.
