Veteran Bollywood editor Waman Bhonsle took his last breath on Monday (April 26) in Mumbai due to age-related issues. Bhonsle’s nephew Dinesh Bhonsle confirmed the news with indianexpress.com. His funeral took place at Mumbai’s Goregaon East. He was 87.
Dinesh Bhonsle told the publication that Waman Bhonsle was keeping unwell for around a year. “He had diabetes for many years, and in the last one year he had also started losing his memory. He was not able to walk around much either and had stopped eating in the last four-five days. He passed away at his home in Goregaon, Mumbai at 4.00 AM today. His funeral will be held in the afternoon today,” told Dinesh.
In his career of over four decades, Waman Bhonsle edited films like Dostana, Kalicharan, Saaheb, Ram Lakhan, Ghulam, Do Raaste, Agneepath, IAandhi, Parichay, Mausam, Inkaar, Mera Gaon Mera Desh, Hero, Karz, Saudagar and Ghulam among others.
Filmmaker Subhash Ghai offered his condolences on social media. He wrote, “RIP WAMAN BHONSLE SIR. A GENUIS film editor in my first film KALICHARAN remained my editor teacher in all my films till khalnayak n inspired me to edit my film like TAAL n so on. A Great teacher. We @MuktaArtsLtd @Whistling_Woods Remain grateful for good(sic)”.

Sudhir Mishra also paid tribute to Waman Bhonsle. He wrote, “Do most people even know who he is ?. A great Editor . His work with Raj Khosla was outstanding . One of those who contributed to the final impact of a film ! The rhythm and structure of popular Indian Cinema owes a lot to his skillRIP(sic)”.

Actor-filmmaker Viveck Vaswani also mourned the demise of the National Award-winning film editor. “RIP Waman Bhosle. A sad day for cinema!”, he tweeted.
