A suit seeking a restraining order against Bhansali Productions, actor Alia Bhatt and Mafia Queens of Mumbai author Hussain Zaidi has been dismissed by a Civil Court in Mumbai. The Alia Bhatt starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi is based on Zaidi’s book. The lawsuit was filed by Babuji Shah, who claims to be the adopted son of Gangubai Kathiawadi.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali had filed a notice of motion, which was on behalf of the production house and Alia as well. The filmmaker had sought rejection of the lawsuit filed by Babuji. According to a report by India Today, Bhansali’s legal team said that the suit should be barred by limitation, given the fact that the novel was published in 2011 and the suit was filed in December 2020.
The report further stated that Sanjay Leela Bhansali is being represented by advocate Pradeep Gandhy and DSK legal team of Anand Desai, Chandrima Mitra, Parag Khandhar and Prachi Garg who apparently claimed that Babuji Shah did not submit any proof to support his claim of being Gangubai Kathiawadi’s adopted son. Apart from that, he was also not successful in giving any evidence about how he is connected to Gangubai due to which he doesn’t have any locus standi to file the lawsuit.

Meanwhile, an earlier report in Pinkvilla revealed that Gangubai Kathiawadi digital rights have already been sold as a source revealed, “The post-release streaming rights of Gangubai have been sold to an OTT giant for a hefty sum in the vicinity of Rs 70 crore. The paperwork is currently underway. The star-cast, grandeur and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s goodwill have led the team of Gangubai towards striking this massive deal.”
