Gauri Khan

Gauri Khan, who goes beyond being a star wife and is a successful interior designer and entrepreneur, says she always had an inclination towards the world of design.

The wife of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who personifies class and oozes glamour in everything she does, runs her own design studio named The Design Cell.

“I have always had an inclination towards design. Luxury and style have been key elements in all my projects. At the moment, I am concentrating on expanding operations of my design studio of The Design Cell,” Gauri told IANS.

Her brand, The Design Cell, has been the culmination of her long-standing passion for interior design. Her concepts reflect her design sensibility and showcases an eclectic mix of custom and selective pieces, with some creations made by the mother of three — sons Aryan and AbRam and daughter Suhana.

The Design Cell is not the only project she is working on. She is also busy endorsing many fashion and lifestyle brands. The latest feather in her cap is an endorsement for boutique jewellery brand Mahesh Notandass Fine Jewellery, for which she will feature in a series of print and online ads.

Asked about the trend that’s making waves in the jewellery business, she said: “Today, it’s all about statement pieces and blending traditional with contemporary styles… Complementing a red carpet gown with uncut diamond neckpiece or a delicate ‘hathphool’ (hand ornament) with a cocktail dress is the current trend.”

Gauri is a fan of jewellery and says that her personal style is minimalistic yet plush.

“I prefer single statement pieces like solitaire earrings and a elegant ring. I love to complement my Indian ensembles with neckpieces, and earrings and cuffs. It’s important to match your style with the occasion,” she said.

Before this endorsement deal, Gauri lent her creative skills to Satya Paul to mark the fashion brand’s 30th anniversary. She put together must-have pieces inspired by her signature style as a part of the collaboration.
