After the success of ‘English Vinglish’, director Gauri Shinde gifted the movie buffs two beautiful characters-Kaira and Dr. Jehangir Khan a.k.a Jug, played by Alia Bhatt and Shah Rukh Khan in ‘Dear Zindagi’. With this film, Gauri once again served the audiences with yet another unconventional movie which tells the story of a therapist and his student and the unique relationship they share. Shah Rukh and Alia’s characters are still etched in audiences’ mind and loved by people even today.
‘Dear Zindagi’, was Gauri’s second movie and she very delicately handled the chemistry of a mentor and his student. The filmmaker attended the 49th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, where she spoke about the organic relationship between these two characters that had mentorship at one point of time and a beautiful sexual attention on the other.
She shared, “I just wanted them to be real human despite him (Dr. Jug) being a mentor. He is human at the end of the day and he has feelings. Just being in the role of a mentor or teacher that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have feelings or any issues. You can’t expect a therapist to be perfect. It was built in the writing and it was there in the thought to put it in a very subtle way. Especially when you are dealing with such delicate emotions with each other, there is bound to be that bond and some sort of connection between two people.”
“I wouldn’t call it sexual between Shahrukh and Alia though it shows up in that sense. It’s a deep connection that makes you feel to be with that person,” added Gauri.
