Director Anant Narayan Mahadevan says his film “Gour Hari Dastaan” is based on a real story, and the actors will be seen without make-up.
“It is rare for actresses to agree to do a film without make-up. And in this film, no actor has put on make-up as such whether it is Konkona (Sen Sharma) or Tanisshtha (Chaterjee) or any of the other actors,” Mahadevan told the media at the trailer launch.
“Chak De India” actress Vidya Malvade also plays an important role and will be seen sans make-up.
As Mahadevan said, “I must salute the guts of this girl (pointing to Vidya)”, she replied: “It’s just like how I’m at home… like a complete ‘jhalli’ (crazy). And I think that’s why you cast me because I’m a complete jhalli.”
The story is based on Gour Hari Das, who had to face severe hardship in the process of procuring a freedom fighter’s certificate. His struggle lasted for an enormous 32 years and this forms the core of the film.
The film stars Vinay Pathak as the main lead, along with Konkona Sen Sharma, her husband Ranvir Shorey and Tanisshtha Chatterjee. It releases on August 14.
