‘Gully Boy’: Ranveer trained with Divine and Naezy for 10 months

‘Apna Time Aayega’, the first song of Zoya Akhtar’s ‘Gully Boy’ starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt is out and has been creating waves. It is to be noted that ever since the first poster of ‘Gully Boy’ came out, the film is getting a huge response.

‘Gully Boy’, is in part, based on the life and struggles of rapper Divine – its name is inspired by his breakout song, ‘Mere Gully Mein’ – and his troupe of street rappers, who go by the name ‘Gully Gang’.

The trailer, songs and pictures have collectively made it a must watch already. ‘Apna Time Aayega’ shows Singh rapping to the hard-hitting verses written by Divine and Ankur Tewari. The film has four songs performed by Ranveer Singh, including a reimagined version of Divine and Naezy’s hit ‘Meri Gully Mein’.

There is no doubt that the ‘Simmba’ actor has gone that extra mile in this film. According to a report published in Mid-day, Ranveer Singh was trained by rappers Divine and Naezy for 10 months before recording his first song for the film.

Mid-day quoted a source as saying, “Though the songs could have easily been sung by professional rappers, Ranveer thought lending his voice to them would render authenticity to his character. He worked for 10 months on his singing skills by exchanging notes with Divine and Naezy, among other rappers. The two helped him understand which words to emphasise on, and how to make the singing more impactful.”

‘Gully Boy’ is all set to release on February 14, 2019.

On January 4, Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt shared a new poster and a trailer announcement video for their upcoming drama, ‘Gully Boy’. The 1 minute 30 seconds teaser, shared on the official Excel Movies’ YouTube channel, was a prelude to the trailer. In the teaser, we can hear Ranveer Singh rapping while we can also see glimpses of his journey from rags to riches.
