Actor Gulshan Devaiah, who stars alongside Janhvi Kapoor in the upcoming action-thriller Ulajh, recently revealed that he didn’t ‘vibe’ with her on the set. He clarified that although they worked professionally, they didn’t develop a friendly relationship. Actor Vijay Varma, known for his role in Mirzapur, responded to Devaiah’s comment, emphasising that actors do not always become ‘family’ during shoots.

Gulshan Devaiah reveals he doesn’t vibe with Janhvi Kapoor

In a recent interview with Film Companion, Devaiah said, “We don’t really vibe that way. It’s not like we are sitting and chatting. We don’t vibe at all actually.” Janhvi laughed at this and remarked, “This is the funniest thing you have said though.”

Devaiah elaborated, “Early on, it was like, ‘Bro, you are not vibing.’ It is not going to be like we are going to spend time, get to know somebody and use that familiarity in the performance. That’s not going to happen. That happens in other places. With other actors, you vibe like that, not necessarily become friends, but you find something common or interesting about them or something to do together. But I never felt that was getting in the way of us doing the scenes. It didn’t feel like ‘Oh, I am not getting enough or something is lacking.'”

Despite their strictly professional relationship, Devaiah noted that the film’s director, Sudhanshu Saria, was satisfied with their performances. “Still, whatever he wanted (pointing towards the director) was coming together, and that is because she is a professional actor, and she is doing her job,” he said.

Janhvi recounted an incident on the set of Ulajh where she was advised to laugh more at Devaiah’s jokes to make him feel comfortable, as he might be feeling intimidated. She recalled, “I got a call on set once saying, ‘You and Gulshan should go for coffee together because you aren’t cracking jokes between the shots.’ She was like, ‘You should laugh at his jokes more otherwise he might feel intimidated, I don’t know what’s happening.'”

Written by Parveez Shaikh and Sudhanshu Saria, Ulajh is set to release in cinemas on August 2.
