India’s #MeToo movement started in the year 2018 and the names of many bigwigs from Bollywood and corporate sectors cropped up. Not only in Bollywood but also in general women opened up about their ordeals and called out names of the offenders. It created a huge uproar in society specially in the Bollywood industry. But unfortunately, there were no proven offenders. Some were given a clean chit and some even started working as if nothing happened. When it seemed that the #MeToo movement petered out, Dharma Productions came out with ‘Guilty’ that addressed the movement and served as an important voice.
‘Guilty’ starred debutant Gurfateh Pirzada, Akansha Ranjan Kapoor and Kiara Advani in pivotal roles. In the wake of the #MeToo movement in 2018, Vijay Pratap Singh aka VJ (Gurfateh) is accused of rape by Tanu (Akansha). VJ comes from a privileged family and he files a defamation case against her. Later, the truth comes out and VJ is proved as the rapist.

Though Bollywood has come out with its first movie on the movement, people think that the entire movement has died. While talking about India’s #MeToo movement, Gurfateh said, “It happened not only in Bollywood but in every field. People are more aware of it now. I don’t know if it is dying or not but I am definitely sure that people are more careful. If earlier he/she was approaching someone in a bad manner, now he/she will think five times more. This whole movement should go on and it’s cleaning up the whole system and inhumanity for that matter.”
“It’s a great thing it happened and people are acting upon it,” added Gurfateh.
We all should be thankful to Karan Johar, Ruchi Narain, Kanika Dhillon and the entire team of ‘Guilty’ for serving such content to the viewers.
