Harshvardhan Kapoor, son of actor Anil Kapoor, is set to make his Bollywood debut with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s ‘Mirzya’. The film is an adaptation of the tragic romantic saga of Mirza and Sahiba, one of the popular folk love tales like Laila-Majnu and Heer-Ranjha. Kapoor indeed is going to be blessed with a dream debut, given that the story is such a sensitive and soul-soothing one. Apart from ‘Mirzya’, he has been signed in for Vikramaditya Motwane’s ‘Bhavesh Joshi’ as well. However, he says that he does not want to limit himself to only acting.
“After Bhavesh Joshi I want to take some time off to go back to what I was like before. No responsibilities, no prep, no places to show up and no people to please,” he reveals, adding that he doesn’t believe he has to act for 25 years to be successful. “I want to direct and produce too. This is a director’s medium and some of the best struggle to make the films they want to. Anand Gandhi, a good friend and one of the few directors capable of achieving global success, found it so hard to make Ship of Theseus. I’ll definitely work with him some day. For now it’s the vigilante. With Mirzya, I’ve surpassed my own expectations, with Bhavesh Joshi I want to take it a notch higher,” he said while talking to a leading publication.
A lot of hard work has been put in for ‘Mirzya’, with Kapoor practicing archery and horse-riding religiously for one and a half year. Not many know that he was offered the role when he was 21, but refused it as he found himself too young to do it, he returned to US and studied script writing and acting. Upon returning to India, the film was still awaiting him!
We wish him luck for this one and for many more to come.
