Has Shraddha Kapoor starrer Naagin been put on hold due to Bollywood’s box office lows?

Shraddha Kapoor appeared last on the big screen in the year 2020 with Street Dancer 3D alongside Varun Dhawan and Baaghi 3 with Tiger Shroff. Since then, the actress has been missing from the 70 mm. Although, that wait for her to return on the screen has been very exciting considering all the interesting projects in the pipeline. However, according to latest reports, seems like one of those ambitious projects has been put on hold for a while now.

It was in late 2020 that it was announced that Shraddha Kapoor will be playing a shape-shifting serpent in director Vishal Furia’s Naagin trilogy. With the history of the subject in Hindi cinema, and even on TV, there was a lot of excitement and intrigue for the project. After Stree, the audience was excited to see Shraddha back in the supernatural genre, but seems like that wait has been extended indefinitely now.

A trade source informed Mid Day that the makers of Naagin have put the film on the backburner. “Naagin is a VFX-heavy film that was to be made on a massive budget. Given the current dry spell in the market, the makers want to hold the project, and revisit it later. The film was to go on floors in May, but the stakeholders felt it was best to wait it out. If at all, the film will be pursued after Shraddha’s yet-untitled next with Ranbir Kapoor is released,” revealed the source.

Naagin isn’t the first film for Shraddha that has been put on hold indefinitely as earlier this year, another film of hers, Chaalbaaz in London was reported to be shelved for the time being owing to the uncertainty of the business post the pandemic. For now, Shraddha will next be seen in Luv Ranjan’s romantic comedy opposite Ranbir Kapoor that is slated to release in March next year.
