Sanjay Leela Bhansali reveals what took 14 years for Heeramandi
At the first look launch event, SLB revealed why it took him 14 years to finally create the web series. The filmmaker said that the making of Heeramandi was delayed because he ‘got into Devdas’.
He said, “I must thank Moin Beg who came to me with this idea 14 years ago. But I didnt make it back then, I got into Devdas and then I got into Bajirao Mastani and Moin told me please give me my script back.“
Bhansali, who is set to make his digital debut with the web series opened up about how challenging the switch from films to series is. The filmmaker said, “I’ve made 10 films in 30 years. In the last few years I’ve made 3 films and to now make 8 episodes, feels like ‘what have you put me through?’” He further mentioned that it is ‘so demanding’ and ‘so difficult’ to make a show like Heeramandi.
The filmmaker added, “It is far more intense, hard work and demanding to work on a web series. I have given my best to Heeramandi. It has come from within.”
Meanwhile, talking about Heeramandi, it is all set to release on Netflix. The web series revolves around three generations of courtesans in the eponymous pre-Independence era district.
