Anushka Sharma in Sultan

The film ‘Sultan’ is on a record breaking spree by entering the 200 crore club. The film has been appreciated for its story line and execution. But, a certain section of the audience felt that Anushka Sharma‘s character ‘Aarfa’ was a bit regressive and ‘Sultan’ Salman Khan was depicted as a sexist.

Aarfa who is an ace wrestler, dreams of winning a Gold medal at Olympics but she gets pregnant and chooses her baby over career. This thought process is regressive and portrays women as a weaker sex who are ready to sacrifice their careers for the sake of their family.

When Anushka was asked in a recent interview by a leading daily about the same, she said that since her character was pregnant, she had no choice but to let go her dream. Also, it wasn’t a planned pregnancy and the fact that she wasn’t pressurized into making the decision, it was her choice so it is not regressive. Also in real life if she has to choose between child and career, she said she would focus on her child and let career take a backseat.

This lady surely has her priorities set right without any confusion!
