Dalip Tahil arrested for drunk driving; rams his car into an autorickshaw

Popular character actor Dalip Tahil was arrested on the charges of drunk driving by the Khar police on Sunday night. As reported by The Hindu, the actor was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and had rammed his car into an autorickshaw. The accident ended up injuring the passengers Jenita Gandhi (21) and Gaurav Chugh (22) sitting inside. The said incident took place around 9 p.m. near China Garden restaurant on CD Road in Khar.

Tahil’s car had rammed the auto from behind due to which Ms. Gandhi sustained a severe jolt to her back and neck. Ms. Gandhi and Mr. Chugh got off the autorickshaw and saw the car trying to flee towards Santacruz. But as the streets were crowded due to Ganesh Visarjan, the car could not get far and Gandhi and Chugh soon caught up with it. They asked the driver to step out and to their shock realised it was Dalip Tahil who started arguing with them. Police soon stepped in and took them to Khar police station.

The police said that the driver was indeed Dalip Tahil, whose full name is Dalip Tahilramani (65). Ms. Gandhi, Mr. Chugh and Mr. Tahil were taken for a medical check-up, after which the police booked the actor for causing injury due to rash and negligent driving under the Indian Penal Code and for driving under the influence of alcohol under the Motor Vehicles Act.

Sanjay More, senior police inspector, Khar police station, confirmed that Mr. Tahil was arrested and later granted bail.
