‘Rustom’ costume controversy: Akshay Kumar-Twinkle Khanna served legal notice

Superstar Akshay Kumar and his writer cum author wife Twinkle Khanna have been served a legal notice for auctioning the naval uniform he wore in ‘Rustom’. The Kumar’s have been served legal notice by 21 people including seven retired officers and eleven serving officers.

The notice read, “Uniforms resembling those of the armed forces pose a potential threat to national security as the said uniform, insignia and badges could pass for genuine service clothing and can find their way to anti-national elements who can use it to foment trouble.”

The auction house SaltScout has also been given a notice. because they, “have played with the sentiments of armed forces personnel and widows” of fallen soldiers.(Also Read: Yash Raj Films to have three big movies starring Ranbir Kapoor, Ranveer Singh & Akshay Kumar?)

The men in uniform claimed that, “by putting (it) in auction, you have shown no respect for national interest (and) have also played with the sentiments of armed forces personnel and their widows and their family members. As a matter of fact, till date no uniform or medal has been put for auction. The reason for the same being that an officer’s uniform is bestowed as a singular honour on a commissioned officer by President of India for life. It is not a contract but entails a liability for the nation’s sake and thus the array of medals and ranks, insignia are for the discerning eye of the one who proudly wears it.”

The Kumar’s have been caught in a controversy ever since Twinkle decided to auction the costume worn by Akshay in Rustom for a charitable cause. It was for an NGO Janice’s Trust, an animal rescue service, treatment centre and shelter based in Panchgani in Maharashtra.
