Friendship is rarely seen or even maintained in the glamour world of tinsel town. But this actor-director duo go a long way back when it comes to being pals. The upcoming movie, ‘Pratichhaya’, directed by Mukesh Jadhav, where actor Makarand Deshpande plays the role of a mentally challenged, is a thriller loosely inspired from Agatha Christie’s play ‘The Rats’.
On working together, both the actor and director, reminisced the nostalgia of the inter-college days. So when director Mukesh Jadhav, approached Makarand Deshpande to essay this crucial character, he wanted him to play it with the same intensity as he had seen during the college days.
Recalling the past Makarand Deshpande says, “Basically Mukesh and I go back to inter college time which means round about mid 80’s, 1985-90. At that point in time from actor he (Mukesh Jadhav) turned into a Director. He has seen my theatre career. So when he said that, “I am making a film. The first thing is to work with you but the second is that I want that old Makarand Deshpande back! which he saw me as an intense inter-college actor.”
“And that was wonderful because what happened is that after being an actor I turned into writer, director. So within me the actor had taken a back seat. Though I act in theatre but not in films so much anymore. So all of a sudden when he said that I want to work with you and not only that but I want old Makarand back, I think that meant a lot because all of a sudden I went back so many years. It was kind of nostalgic but assuring that what one has done,” added the actor.
