The Supreme Court of India delivered a stern rebuke to YouTube personality Ranveer Allahbadia on Tuesday, condemning his vile remarks made on the show “India’s Got Latent” hosted by Samay Raina. The court declared that such behaviour should be condemned and emphasized that popularity does not grant an individual the right to disregard societal norms.

Supreme Court SLAMS Ranveer Allahbadia on obscene remarks

“Such behaviour has to be condemned. Just because you are popular, you cannot take society for granted. Is there anyone on earth who would like this language? There is something very dirty in his mind which has been vomited. Why should we protect him,” the court said, according to Bar and Bench.

The apex court’s bench, comprising Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh, heard Allahbadia’s petition seeking relief from arrest. Clubbing of multiple FIRs lodged against him over his alleged distasteful comments. Represented by Abhinav Chandrachud, son of former CJI Chandrachud, Allahbadia also named the Central Government and the governments of Maharashtra and Assam as respondents in the petition.

SC provided relief to Ranveer’s protection

The court provided relief to Allahbadia by protecting him from arrest but also restrained him from airing any further YouTube content. Justice Kant expressed his disgust at the language used by Allahbadia. He stated that it reflected a “perverted mind” and would likely make parents and sisters feel ashamed.

“The words you have chosen would make parents ashamed, sisters ashamed, and the entire society will feel ashamed,” Justice Kant said, as reported by Live Law. “You and your henchmen have exhibited perversion! We have a judicial system, bound by the rule of law. If there are threats, the law will take its course.”

To prevent any potential threats, Justice Kant directed Allahbadia to deposit his passport at the Thane Police Station. He is free to approach the local police in Maharashtra and Assam for protection if he receives any threats.
