Imran Khan dismisses reports of renting Karan Johar’s apartment with GF Lekha Washington: I’ve always found it to be a little odd

Imran Khan made a splash when he stepped into Bollywood with Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na. While he has stayed away from films for several years now, the ‘Delhi Belly’ actor has been making headlines often in recent times for many reasons, including making a comeback as well as his personal life. In March, reports surfaced that Imran and Lekha were planning on shifting into Karan Johar’s seaside apartment and would be paying the filmmaker a whopping Rs 9 lakhs per month in rent. In a recent chat, Imran dismissed these reports. Read on to know what he said.

Imran Khan on renting Karan Johar’s apartment

During a recent Film Companion interview, Imran Khan was asked about renting Karan Johar’s apartment with girlfriend Lekha Washington. For the unversed, last month reports surfaced that the ‘Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na’ actor and his girlfriend would be spending a whopping Rs 9 lakhs per month to reside in KJo’s swanky three-storey seas-facing apartment. Now the actor has revealed whether the news is true or not.

Dismissing the rumours about renting Karan Johar’s Mumbai apartment, the actor said, “It’s one of those things that I have never fully been able to wrap my head around. The notion of celebrity and fame and the idea that people follow you around literally and report on you and comment on you and all of that. I’ve always found it to be a little odd.”

Imran on moving out of his Pali Hill bungalow

In the same conversation, Imran Khan also spoke about moving out of his Pali Hill bungalow to an apartment in Bandra five years ago. He said, “For the past five years, just from the time I separated, I moved into this space where I’ve lived for the past 5 years. I started by moving into what was an empty space. And I started bringing things into my space, basis my requirement.” Adding that the shift was for “separating from those external trappings,” Imran stated, “It was about knowing what do I actually get happiness from. I found it to be a much easier existence these past few years. I wanted my own space,I wanted to run and manage it on my own.”

Imran Khan further revealed that his requirements in his new house included a television – as he likes watching movies, a sofa, three plates – one each for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and a vacuum cleaner to keep his area tidy. He added that he’s negotiating this three-plate policy with his girlfriend and revealed that they are figuring out a middle ground. He said, “It’s an ongoing negotiation. It’s like ‘Can we get more plates? How many do we really need? I may do with three; can we do with five? Six? Okay, three for you, three for me.’ So that is the ongoing negotiation that we’re figuring out as we move into a new place.”
