Imtiaz Ali feels ‘execution’ is the problem behind Jab Harry Met Sejal and Love Aaj Kal failure

Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali is one of the prolific directors of Bollywood. His movies like Jab We Met, Rockstar, Tamasha and his recent Amar Singh Chamkila have been loved by all. But there are movies like Jab Harry Met Sejal and Love Aaj Kal that didn’t work well with the audience. Even though people loved to see Shah Rukh Khan-Anushka Sharma and Kartik Aaryan-Sara Ali Khan in the movies, the story didn’t connect to them. Speaking about the failure, Imtiaz feels execution is the problem behind all his movies.

“When I made them, I just wanted to make a movie, but they didn’t work. All my films have had some problems in execution; [I feel] they could have been better. However, I hope people see some merit in these two films also, as some good things probably did not come through [at once],” he told HT.

“I don’t want my films to come across as intellectual,” says Ali, adding, “If they do, they might seem restrictive, and I don’t want them to belong to an exclusive crowd. I would love to make a masala film, but I just don’t know how to make it as I can’t help but be myself.”

Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma starrer Jab Harry Met Sejal earned Rs 64.33 cr at the box office. Whereas Kartik Aaryan and Sara Ali Khan starrer Love Aaj Kal collected Rs 34.99 cr at the box office. Nevertheless, the director is basking in praise for his recently released movie Amar Singh Chamkila. The movie starring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra garnered great responses from the audience.
