Imtiaz Ali recalls casting Diljit Dosanjh for Amar Singh Chamkila; says, “Shah Rukh Khan once told me he’s the best actor in the country”

Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra starrer Amar Singh Chamkila released globally on Netflix on 12^th April. The film directed by ace director Imtiaz Ali has been receiving rave response. To promote the film, the cast and makers went to The Great Indian Kapil Show where Imtiaz Ali revealed how Shah Rukh Khan once called Diljit the best actor in our country.

During the show, Imtiaz Ali disclosed that King Khan had once praised Diljit’s stellar acting skills. He averred, “Shah Rukh Khan once told me that Diljit Dosanjh is the best actor in the country. I feel that if Diljit paaji had refused to do this film, then we could have never made it. So, we were very lucky. We couldn’t have asked for a better cast than this, both are extremely good. Parineeti is an actor, singer, and someone who was immediately ready to put on 15 kilograms for her character. It was nice and comforting.”

For those unversed, Imtiaz Ali wanted to collaborate with Shah Rukh Khan for quite some time. The opportunity finally presented itself with his 2017 film Jab Harry Met Sejal.

Talking about Imtiaz’s latest directorial venture, the biographical drama is about Punjab’s most popular singer of the turbulent 80s, who was heralded as the ‘Elvis of Punjab’. However, he was killed at the age of 27 along with his wife Amarjot Singh for singing songs people claimed were vulgar and spoiled society. Praising Diljit’s performance, a part of Bollywood Bubble review read, “Diljit Dosanjh is the heart of Amar Singh Chamkila. Given he is himself a great and popular singer, it seems very easy and natural for him. You can see how he adapts the character and how he is living it to the fullest onscreen.”
