After playing the dreaded don Dawood Ibrahim’s sister Haseena Parkar, actress Shraddha Kapoor is gearing up to play badminton star Saina Nehwal in her next biopic which will be helmed by Amole Gupte. It’s been a while after this much-anticipated project has been announced, but still the title of this film hasn’t been locked as of now. Recently, during an interview with a leading daily, filmmaker Amole Gupte revealed the possible title of the film.
The filmmaker shared that the title of the film might possibly be ‘Maar Dungi’. Yes! You heard that right. For the ones who aren’t aware, it is a phrase that Saina uses before every match. “Before she goes for the match, she says, ‘Mujhe jaana hai aur maarna hai,’ or, ‘Usko maar dungi,'” said the filmmaker. Further, talking about the plot of the film, Amole Gupte said, “The film will trace her journey to becoming the number one player in the world. I spent a lot of time with Nehwal before deciding to make the film. I don’t want to waste this opportunity by making it look so unbelievable that it almost seems fictional.” [sic]
“Since my film also portrays the life of her family before her birth, I had to meet her parents (Harvir Singh and Usha Rani). I also spent time with her coach Pullela Gopichand, and her friends,” added the filmmaker. [sic]
Amole went on to reveal that Shraddha was always his first choice to play this part. He stated, “Shraddha resembles Saina. In fact, she was always my first choice. I have had conversations with Saina too. It’s not that this idea popped up recently. I have been sitting on this script for two years.” [sic]
Currently, the actress is undergoing training from ace badminton player Jitesh Padukone to get into the skin of the character.
This biopic on Saina Nehwal is produced by Bhushan Kumar.
