Jackie Shroff and Govinda imposed fine by a consumer court for endorsing pain relief oil

Actors Jackie Shroff and Govinda were fined by a consumer court in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar for endorsing pain relief oil. Both the actors have been fined Rs 20,000. Reportedly the company producing those pain relief oil has also been imposed with a fine. The case against the company and these two actors was filed five years back.

As per a report in IANS, Abhinav Agarwal, a Muzaffarnagar-based lawyer had ordered a pain relief oil for his father after watching its advertisement in a newspaper. The ad of the oil also stated a full refund if the user is unable to get visible results in 15 days of use. When the oil failed to bring any relief to Abhinav’s father, he contacted the company, however, they failed to repay him.

Later Abhinav filed a complaint in the Consumer Court.“I bought the product because celebrities like Govinda and Jackie Shroff were promoting it. The company promised complete relief in 15 days. Everything turned out to be a fraud,” said Abhinav to IANS.

The Court has ordered the company, Govinda, Jackie Shroff, Telemart Shopping Network Pvt Limited and Max Communications to pay a compensation of Rs 20,000 to victim apart from returning Rs. 3,600 with an interest of 9 per cent per annum.

For the longest time, there has been a debate about whether celebs should be held responsible for the products they endorse or if they should be sensitive enough to use their star power sensibly.
