Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff has approached the Delhi High Court to protect his publicity and personality rights and refrain people from using his name ‘Bhidu’ without his permission. This means, no one can mimic or use the term without his consent. He is the third Bollywood actor to seek personality right after Amitabh Bachchan and Anil Kapoor.

On Tuesday, 14 May, Jackie took legal action against multiple entities for unauthorized use of his name, images and voice. n 15 May with the court possibly issuing an interim order after tomorrow’s proceedings. Advocate Pravin Anand, representing Shroff, informed the court that his images have been used in offensive memes, and his voice has been misappropriated for similar purposes in some cases. In his plea before the High Court, the veteran actor reportedly seeks protection for his names Jackie Shroff, Jackie, Jaggu Dada, and Bhidu, stating that his attributes cannot be used without his authorisation on any platform.
Other actors who protected their personality rights
Earlier, Anil won a lawsuit which sought to protect his personality rights with respect to his name, voice, image, likeness, manner of speaking and gestures, and more. Even it included the ‘jhakaas’ catchphrase. Before him, Amitabh Bachchan recognised the unauthorized use of his voice. He asserted that his voice was an intrinsic part of his personality. Back then, superstar Rajnikanth had filed a suit in the Madras High Court against the release of a film titled Main Hoon Rajnikanth on the ground that it would cause gross damage to his goodwill, infringe his personality rights and cause deception in the minds of the public.
