toilet ek prem katha

Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar-starrer ‘Toilet – Ek Prem Katha’ has been mired in various controversies from the onset. A filmmaker Pratik Sharma had filed a case of copyright infringement in a Jaipur Metropolitan Court against Plan C Studios, which is an alliance between Reliance Entertainment and Friday Filmworks. He had accused the makers of stealing the punchline and subject from his movie ‘Gutrun Gutar Gun’.

So today, the local court has rejected his plea which asked for a stay on the release of ‘Toilet – Ek Prem Katha’. On August 2, the arguments in the case were completed and the judgment was to be made on Saturday. SS Hora, counsel for Viacom18, said to a news agency, “After hearing arguments for three successive days, the Jaipur Metropolitan Court prima facie found no merit in the case and rejected the application.” (Also Read: Akshay and Bhumi-starrer ‘TEPK’ gets a tax-free status in UP)

GD Bansal, advocate for Jaipur-based filmmaker Pratik Sharma stated, “We will study the judgement and then decide our future course of action.” After Pratik Sharma had filed a case of copyright infringement against makers of ‘Toilet – Ek Prem Katha’, on July 26, the court asked the makers of the movie to file a reply or enter into arguments in the case on July 31.

Earlier, the court had issued a notice returnable on July 22, but due to a strike by the clerical staff, the respondents were given a new date of July 26 by the court for filing their replies.

Talking about the movie, it is directed by Shree Narayan Singh, produced by KriArj Entertainment and stars Akshay Kumar, Bhumi Pednekar, Anupam Kher and Divyendu Sharma in important roles. The movie is slated to release on August 11, 2017.
