Janhvi Kapoor is amongst one of those actresses in this generation who are shocking and surprising everyone with their film choices. After starting off with a commercial film like Dhadak, Janhvi took an unexpected route by being part of an anthology, Ghost Stories. She then did a biopic Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl, then followed it with a spooky performance in Roohi. This year, she gave two impressive performances in Good Luck Jerry and Mili and even with her future choices, she is promising something very different.

And while she is experimenting a lot on screen with her projects, her social media presence is completely different, full of her quirky, witty as well as glamorous side. But during a recent round table discussion for Film Companion, the actress insisted that social media doesn’t play any part in the performance of her films. She cited an example saying that if all 21 million of her Instagram followers came to watch her latest film Mili, ‘it would have been a huge hit’.

When asked if her glamorous social media is a way for her to fit in as a quintessential Bollywood heroine, Janhvi humbly replied, “I’ve been told that whatever I’m doing is confusing for the audiences, so if anything, maybe it’s a lack of strategy. If I have to tailor an image on social media to make my films more saleable, I think that’s too technical and that’s too calculated for my kind of personality. I will keep doing the kind of work that I believe in to satisfy my creativity, and my social media is for more brands, more likes, and vanity.”

She went on to add, “Everyone is guided to feed into this perception game, or at least the conversations that I hear around me. Everyone is trying to look out for you and wants the best for you, but there’s a school of thought that tries to teach actors to sell themselves a little bit, and to build perception… Film mein naachne ko nahi mil raha toh main social media pe daal dungi, it’s honestly as simple as that.” Up next, Janhvi has Bawaal with Varun Dhawan and Mr and Mrs Mahi with RajKummar Rao in the offing, and the actress is surely going to raise the bar yet again with each of these performances.
