Janhvi Kapoor was still shooting for ‘Dhadak’ when her mother, Sridevi passed away in Dubai on February 24. The entire Kapoor khandaan was in Dubai for Mohit Marwah’s wedding. But since she was in the midst of filming for ‘Dhadak’, she couldn’t accompany her family to join in the celebrations. And while she was still shooting, the news came as a shock to Janhv but this young starlet didn’t let that affect the shooting schedule of her debut film.
Without pushing the release date of ‘Dhadak‘. Janhvi decided to report on the set within a couple of days. “It was an organic decision,” she says. “Surprisingly, the only thing I don’t associate with work is mom,” she reasons.
She also shares how Sridevi and she had decided that her Bollywood journey is going to be hers alone. She says, “Both of us had consciously decided that this would be my own journey. Acting is the only thing I knew to do without her.”
Losing your mother, who has always been by your side is the worst feeling ever. Janhvi knows that feeling and the last few months haven’t been easy for her. With a catch in her voice, Janhvi said, “Working was the easy part, everything else was a struggle.”

The first day on set is special not only for the actor but also for the parents. So when it was Janhvi’s first shot, parents Boney Kapoor and Sridevi made sure to be present. Janhvi recalls, “It was my moment of truth and fortunately it went smoothly. The first shot was okayed in one take. We had prepped so much that I wasn’t nervous and felt like everything in my life had been building up to this moment.”
Janhvi then shared how the film’s producer, Karan Johar met her after Manish Malhotra, who is a close friend of the Kapoors, urged him to meet the young Kapoor girl. Karan did meet Janhvi and, did a few reading session and also made her enact a few scenes. Janhvi says, “He was considering me for another film initially, but then I met Shashank (Khaitan, director), ‘Dhadak’ just happened and everything felt so right.”
As the release date is coming close, Janhvi is feeling the pressure of expectations. “During the shoot, I was far removed from the din. Now, I can only hope that I live up to the expectations, including my own,” she says.
She wants to make her mother and the fans proud. “Hopefully I’m worthy enough to be given the chance to create my own identity,” she adds.
Besides, Jahnvi ‘Dhadak’ is Ishaan Khatter’s big Bollywood too, the movie releases on 20th July 2018.
