Javed Akhtar schools netizen for calling him ‘son of gaddar’; says “my family has gone to jails, yours was licking the boots of Angrez sarkar”

Lyricist-writer Javed Akhtar is known for being on a number of topic, including films, politics and more. Javed, recently took to social media and slammed a social media user for calling him a ‘son of a gaddar.’ Read on to know Akhtar’s reaction to it.

Javed Akhtar recently took to X (formerly Twitter) and hit out at a social media user who branded him ‘a son of gaddar.’ The Twitter interaction happened when the user took a swipe at him over a post in which he commented on US President Joe Biden’s chances of being re-elected. He tweeted, “I am a proud Indian citizen and till my last breath I will remain so but I have one common fact with Joe Biden. Both of us have exactly equal chance of becoming the next president of USA.”

Replying to this, a user wrote, “Your father was instrumental in making Pakistan in order to have a nation just for Muslims, then in the guise of progressive writer he chose to remain in India. You are a son of Gaddar who divided our nation on the lines of religion. Now u say anything but this is the truth.” Not one to take snide comments sitting down, Javed responded by writing, “It is difficult to decide whether you are totally ignorant or a complete idiot. From 1857 my family has been involved with the freedom movement and has gone to jails and Kala Paani when most probably your baap dadas were licking the boots of Angrez Sarkar”

Javed Akhtar’s ancestors

For those who don’t know, Akhtar is the son of lyricist-poet Jan Nisar Akhtar and writer Safiya Siraj-ul Haq. Jan Nisar was an active part of the Progressive Writers’ Movement in pre-Partition British India. His great, great-grandfather, Fazl-e-Haq Khairabadi, was a freedom fighter who participated in the 1857 rebellion against the rule of the British East India Company. Khairabadi was sentenced to life in prison at Kala Paani, where he also died in 1864.
