It takes a lot of preparation to get into a skin of the character when playing a real-life character for a biopic. An actor has to learn their body language, mannerisms, mechanism while portraying an iconic or powerful character on the big screens. Similarly, actor Kangana Ranaut has also left no stones unturned to essay the role of the former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa in her recently released film, Thalaivii. Surprisingly, Jayalalithaa wanted actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to play her in the biopic. Well, this was revealed by yesteryear actor Simi Garewal.
Taking to her Twitter handle, Simi revealed that even though she supports Kangana’s acting talent, Jayalalithaa wanted Aishwarya to play the role of Thalaivii. She wrote, “Altho I do not support #KanganaRanaut’s radical comments..I do support her acting talent. In #Thailavii she gives it her heart & soul! Jaya-ji wanted Aishwarya to play her..my hunch is JJ wud hv approved of Kangana’s portrayal. As for @thearvindswamy he is MGR reincarnate!!”
Replying to one of the user’s comment, Simi wrote, “You forget he is Arvind Swamy! You believe he REALLY is MGR! But they left out JJ’s childhood..I wish they hadn’t. It wud have had a stronger impact in the story of Jayalalithaa.. but that’s only my opinion..”

Meanwhile, BollywoodBubble gave Thalaivii 3 stars. A part of the review said, “Thalaivii is a good homage to the life that Jayalalithaa lived and the untold story behind Amma. But the faulty direction and dubbing brings it down a bit. Nevertheless, Kangana Ranaut and Arvind Swami’s powerful acts are enough to arrest your attention.”
Helmed by A. L. Vijay, the film was released on September 10, with the new title Thalaivii. The film is released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
