On Wednesday, thespian Dilip Kumar’s death has left the entire Indian film fraternity in shock. Everyone is currently mourning the death of the legendary actor. Since 3-4 months, he was not keeping well and today after a prolonged illness, he passed away at the age of 98. His death is a huge loss for the entire Hindi cinema as the industry has lost the gem.
From Amitabh Bachchan, Lata Mangeshkar to PM Narendra Modi to Pakistan PM, Imran Khan, everyone condoled the death of the ‘Tragedy King’. Actor Jeetendra who worked with Dilip Kumar in Dharm Adhikari has also mourned his demise.
Jeetendra said in a statement, “What can I say about this legend, Dilip Kumar Sahab, who showed us the way. Who showed us how it’s done, with so much grace and elan. He has been an inspiration to people like me who have aspired to be like him in every possible way. His love and warmth is unmatched and there will never be another like him. He was not just a genius on screen but also a great friend and a gem of a person. His contribution to cinema and our lives is huge. I will miss him dearly. May he rest in peace. Condolences to the entire family and Sairaji.”
Today, Dilip Kumar’s friend Faisal Farooqui wrote on the actor’s social media handles, “With a heavy heart and profound grief, I announce the passing away of our beloved Dilip Saab, few minutes ago. We are from God and to Him we return”.
Dilip Kumar worked in the industry for five decades and his contribution to the Hindi cinema is immense. Mughal-e-Azam, Devdas, Madhumati, Kranti, Karma, Azaad, Gunga Jamuna among others are some of his best works.
The actor was honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, and also conferred with Padma Vibhushan. Today, he will be laid to rest with state honours at Juhu Qabrastan at 5 pm.
