The Bombay High Court has extended the stay on the Jiah Khan Suicide trial in a lower court against actor Sooraj Pancholi. A division bench of Justices N H Patil and P D Naik adjourned Rabia’s petition at the request of her advocate Dhairyasheel Patil who said he needed time as he was appointed only today.
The High Court also gave a strict warning while granting the request. The Court said, “Time and again, adjournment is being requested in this matter. The Supreme Court had directed for it to be heard and disposed of at the earliest. This is the last time we are granting an adjournment.”
The court further added, “The interim relief granted in the petition by way of stay on the trial in the lower court is extended for a period of three weeks.”
Jiah Khan had committed suicide on June 10, 2013, at her residence. Subsequently, Sooraj Pancholi was arrested on the charges of abetting Jiah’s suicide but was later released after the HC granted him bail. Jiah’s mother is of a view that her daughter did not commit suicide but was murdered, so she requested a special investigative team to probe into Jiah Khan Suicide.
