The recent incident of two Kannada actors drowning in a reservoir in Bengaluru while performing a stunt has shocked one and all, but for actor, John Abraham, this incidence is like a throwback to the ‘near-to-death’ incident that he faced while shooting a stunt for his film ‘Saaya’.
In a conversation with an entertainment portal, John narrated this incidence and said that he could relate to the tragic incident of Kannada actors’ deaths deeply. He was quoted saying, “I faced a near-to-death incident in my second film ‘Saaya,’ directed by Anurag Basu. In the climax of the film, I had to jump into the water and I had to pretend to float because as per the script, I have fainted in the water. A guy was supposed to pull me along – my co-star Mr. Raj Zutshi. I was about 10 feet away from the waterfall which had a 100 feet drop. Little did I know, the stuntmen around me have tied our legs with wires and all, but none of them (the stuntmen) knew how to swim! What happened was, when I was floating on the back, I suddenly heard Raj scream that ‘I can’t swim!’ Next, I remember was, he pushed me! When I came back above, I couldn’t move because I was pulled from all ends by the wires. It was when I came on the shore, I realized I got a second life.”

He further added, “When these Kannada stuntmen passed away, I felt a little part of me was gone. I realized what must have happened with them as only an action person can relate to such tragedy so deeply. Because when that incident happened with me, I thought I have really lost my life and that too in my second film!”
Well, it’s always a delight to watch actors and stuntmen performing high-octane, daredevil stunts on-screen, but the risk that they carry, can be only understood by them.
John Abraham will soon be seen ‘Force 2’.
