I was frustrated when some films didn’t happen: Jugal Hansraj on stepping away from acting

Jugal Hansraj is one of the popular actors in the industry. He started his career as a child artist in Shekhar Kapoor’s Masoom. Jugal made his acting debut as an adult in Aa Gale Lag Jaa. Later, he featured in Mohabbatein, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Aaja Nachle, and Salaam Namaste. He has had his shared ups and downs in career. And in a recent interview with YouTuber Sal Ahmed, Jugal expressed his disappointment over the numerous films he had signed in his initial days but failed to take off as planned.

Jugal Hansraj opens up on stepping away from acting

Recalling the early days, Jugal said, “I had signed many films, but for some reason or another, they didn’t start. For some films, I even had costume trials, but things didn’t work out. These films were with well-known production houses. I guess it was just bad luck. Because of these reasons, I had fewer releases and less shooting. However, I had signed a considerable number of films.”

The actor added, “When someone signs 3-4 films, obviously I won’t commit to more because I don’t want to be unprofessional. But when those films didn’t start, I would miss out on the ones that came later and even the ones before that.”

The actor shared that veteran actor Manmohan Desai signed him for a film in his early days but it did not work. Adding to that, he said, “Then Pahlaj Nihalani signed me, but did not start. So in my entire career, there were a lot of films that did not start even after I was committed to them, I would have done a lot more work if all those films had started as planned.”

After his acting projects did not take off, Jugal turned into written and directing. He is known to direct films like Roadside Romeo and Pyaar Impossible. However, things again didn’t work out. The actor revealed, “A couple of films were about to start and didn’t happen. 2-3 years passed, so I was a bit frustrated and disappointed. I decided to take up a job at the studio. However, I didn’t find much enjoyment in it either.”

Jugal has returned back to films and things are going well for him. The actor recently delivered a terrific performance in Shiv Shastri Balboa which also stars Anupam Kher and Neena Gupta. He also appeared in the Netflix series Mismatched. The actor will be next seen in Gunjan Kuthiala’s NRI WIVES.
