Ever since Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani starrer ‘Kabir Singh’ released, there has been a debate on its glorification of toxic masculinity. Although the film minted huge sum at the box-office collection, several film critics and a section of the audience criticized the makers for glorifying Kabir’s problematic character.
While several actors also bashed the makers, but filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has come forward in support of this Shahid Kapoor starrer.
Anurag Kashyap, who is known for making hard-hitting films, has backed Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s ‘Kabir Singh’. The filmmaker says that one cannot enforce the existence of one kind of cinema. While talking to PTI recently, Kashyap said, “The first thing is, it’s up to you whether you want to take it on or not. If I disagree with something, if I don’t consider the cinema of a kind cinema at all, I can’t say it cannot exist. I can’t enforce that. We can all co-exist.”

“Like there were a lot of controversies around ‘Kabir Singh’. Everybody can make any film and should make any film, should represent all kinds of people. ‘Kabir Singh’ does represent more than 75-80 percent of urban India. Why not put it out? If I disagree with it, I won’t see it. But sometimes it’s necessary to see ourselves,” added the ‘Manmarziyaan’ director.
Kashyap also said that being politically correct all the time doesn’t help any filmmaker.
