Kailash Kher slams Sona Mohapatra, says accusing without formal complaint is not authentic

Ever since Tanushree Dutta began the #MeToo movement when she accused Nana Patekar of sexual harassment, many Bollywood celebs including Subhash Ghai, singer Kailash Kher, Sajid Khan, Alok Nath, Rajkumar Hirani and many others were in the alleged offenders’ list. Notably, Kailash Kher was accused of sexual harassment by multiple women.

A few months ago, singer Sona Mahapatra accused Kailash Kher of sexually harassing her. In a series of tweets, Sona described how Kher kept making inappropriate advances towards her when they had met to collaborate for a song. Also, the singer kept his hand on her thigh telling her how beautiful she is and how she is lucky to have been found by a singer, not an actor.

Earlier, a photojournalist had also accused singer Kailash Kher of sexually harassing her when she went to his house for an interview in 2006. Another woman accused Kailash Kher of inviting her repeatedly to his hotel room in Kolkata.

And now, coming in his own defence, Kailash Kher said that in his view, if a person is not making a formal complaint and just continues to accuse then it is not authentic. In an interaction with media at the music launch of Marathi film Dokyala Shot along with Riteish Deshmukh and Abhijit Panse, Kailash Kher said, “Everyone has their own thinking. If I accuse someone only by taking that individual’s name over and over again then, nothing will come out of it. If you will take legal recourse against that person, then it becomes another matter altogether.”

He further said, “If I tell you that I will not make a complaint against that individual, but still I will accuse him of doing certain criminal activity, then I feel it’s not an authentic complaint.”

On being asked if he feels Sona’s allegations are baseless, Kailash answered saying, “No. I will not decide what is right and what is wrong. I have never accused someone. I am living my life. We are simply human beings and we focus on creating music.”
