‘Taanaji: The Unsung Warrior’: Kajol dons a typical Maharashtrian look for a song

After working with husband-filmmaker Ajay Devgn in several movies in the past, Kajol will be reunited with husband in his upcoming film ‘Tanaaji: The Unsung Warrior’.  The film is based on the life of Taanaji Malusare, who was a superintendent in the army of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

The film ‘Tanaaji: The Unsung Warrior’ features Ajay Devgn in the lead role. According to the Mumbai Mirror report, Kajol shot for a song in a week-long schedule for Ajay Devgn’s upcoming period-drama. The report further stated that Kajol will be portraying the role of Ajay’s wife in the film. Notably, ‘Singham’ actor will reunite with Saif Ali Khan after 12 years in ‘Taanaji’ who will be playing the character of Rajput warrior Udaybhan Rathod.

Talking about his reunion with Ajay Devgn, Saif had earlier said, “I respect Ajay and like the way he looks at life. I’m happy to be a part of this huge historical which will be a screen extravaganza, a ‘Baahubali’ kind of experience in 3D. Kids will love it, so will the rest of the country.”

It is to be noted that Kajol is half-Maharashtrian, and the character of the film required a basic understanding of the language and other traditional elements, with effortless ease. “The dance number accentuates her character’s emotional state and focuses on her facial expressions,” the source said.

“The song was shot over a week in the last week of December and is a part of the climax. It sees Kajol dressed in a traditional Maharashtrian outfit from the 17th century, inside her onscreen home. It has her thinking about her relationship with her warrior husband and a certain situation the couple is faced with at the time. Although Ajay won’t feature in the number, there are glimpses of their past moments together,” a source added.

‘Taanaji: The Unsung Warrior’ marks the directorial debut of Om Raut, and reunites Ajay and Kajol on screen after nine years. Kajol and Ajay Devgn were last seen together in films like ‘Toonpur Ka Superhero’ which released in 2010. They have been worked together in several movie including ‘Ishq’ (1997), ‘Pyar To Hona Hi Tha’ (1998) and ‘Raju Chacha’ (2000) among others.

The film is scheduled to release on November 22, 2019.
